Do you like velvet? Personally I like clothes/shoes made of this material rather picky and cautious (in all my life I have only had one such thing), but in the interior it is truly incomparable! If you remember the most large-scale interior exhibitions this year (ISaloni, Maison&Objet) the luxurious velvet texture decorated many of the stands. Velvet is definitely the fabric of the season. Ready to insulate your homes?!)
I’m very attracted to tactile materials, but velvet is not only pleasant to the touch, it also visually looks incredibly soft and cozy. You can change the depth depending on the color: in recent times, rich, bold shades – noble cobalt, rich scarlet, emerald, purple – have been used more often in combination with such soft textures. The space with their presence becomes incredibly dramatic, spectacular, with an enveloping atmosphere. But also in a gentle pastel version velvet items will look no less winning, I, for example, insanely like the beauty of restrained ash gray shade, dusty pink, natural coffee shade.

If you think that velvet will only look harmonious in classical elegant interiors, then you are deeply mistaken. Yes, despite its royal pretentiousness, this material is quite universal. Velvet details will beautifully complement and soften the rough finish of the loft, at one moment enliven the laconic Scandinavian atmosphere and even add coziness to the strict minimalism. In addition, they will look good in eclecticism, ethnics, boho. Perhaps where I least imagine velvet to be appropriate is in Provence.

Some tips:

  • Use velvet as an accent material, not as the main material.
  • The smaller the room, the less velvet you have to have.
  • Keep to a minimum and do not force the room with a lot of furniture and decorations, otherwise the velvet in such interior will only increase the “clutter”
  • For autumn-winter period you can buy for your interior velvet curtains, blankets on pillows or small accessories, which with the advent of spring can be changed for something lighter and airy, and then a year later change it again, at the same time “warming up” the interior
  • Cold materials such as brass, copper, marble, perfectly complement and balance the serene velvet texture.
